The Far Side of the Galaxy

The Alien Worlds on The Far Side of the Galaxy that appear on the pages below are made from photographic negatives of blown soap bubbles.

Origins of Alien Worlds
To create an Alien World, I start with a negative photograph of a soap bubble. The photographer (my son, Dr Ben Lane took the photographs for this series) only has a few minutes to catch a bubble while it forms its iridescent colours and before it snaps into eternity).

The bubbles may be floating in the air or placed on a wine glass. I use Photoshop magic to manipulate each bubble negative into a spherical form to simulate a moon world. Then I create a virtual sky for the new world to turn in. Most of the skies are purely from imagination, for some others I wish to credit NASA for Hubble's fantastic space telescope images.

Is there Alien Life on Alien Worlds?
If there is Alien Water, Alien Life is possible! Bubble worlds are convincing and beautiful because the laws of physics apply to the entire universe. The markings on a soap bubble will be drawn by natural forces into the same unique and beautiful formations and colours that we see on our own familiar earth, moon and planets.
